The 5th Youth Festival “VuzEcoFest”, held with the support of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, successfully ended. Thousands of students from more than 50 institutions of higher education in Russia and Belarus took part in the festival events.
“VUZEKOFEST” is a youth project to create a community of leaders aimed at promoting the concept of “green universities” and forming a culture of an eco-friendly lifestyle. In 2019, the main theme of the festival was the adaptation of sustainable development goals at the university level.
A large-scale discussion with the participation of representatives of government bodies, international organizations, business, non-profit organizations, academic and student communities was conducted on dozens of sites in different regions of Russia. The results of the event make it possible to form a consolidated view on the ability of universities to adapt to the global sustainable development agenda and to address the challenges of national projects.
Participation in the events of the festival allowed students and young specialists of higher education institutions to increase and share their knowledge, to gain real project and managerial experience, to develop leadership potential, to get support in implementing their own projects, to find like-minded people and friends.
The final event of the festival was a round table "Practices and prospects for the adaptation of universities to the global sustainable development agenda in the context of the implementation of national projects." Vlada Streletskaya, director of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, who took part in the discussion, spoke about the successful practices of partner involvement of students and young people in sustainable development projects.
“Forming a responsible approach to the world in the student environment, developing an active life position - these issues receive a lot of attention in the oil and gas industry, this is one of the priorities of our daily work. Participation in the preparation and conduct of “VUZEKOFEST-2019” gave valuable experience, especially necessary for us on the eve of the VI Youth Forum of the World Petroleum Council - the Future Leaders Forum, which will be held on June 23-28 in St. Petersburg. After all, the theme of the student festival has much in common with the agenda of the Forum of Future Leaders of the WPC, ”said Vlada Streletskaya, director of the RNC WPC.
The youth festival in the field of ecology and sustainable development “VuzEcoFest” was first organized in Russia in 2015 and is held annually. For five years, the geography and the number of participants have significantly expanded, the number of events has increased, they become more diverse and relevant. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Russian National Network of the UN Global Compact and the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council
