In 2015, the WPC Energy Russian National Committee launched the “Golden Legacy of the World Petroleum Council” Scholarship, which aims to identify and support the most talented and promising students from all over Russia. This competition is held annually.


The main criteria for eligibility for this scholarship are:

  • Full-time enrollment as a bachelor's, specialist's, master's, or postgraduate student;
  • Study in the field of oil and gas at an institution with state accreditation;
  • High academic performance throughout the entire period of study;
  • Demonstrated achievements in science or public activities.
To date, ten rounds of the competition have been held. 91 representatives from 25 Russian universities have already received the “Golden Legacy of the WPC” Scholarship.

How to apply for a scholarship

Candidates should fill in the registration form and attach the following documents:

  • Nomination form of the approved sample;
  • Certificates of appreciation and other documents (including scans of publications in science books) confirming achievements should be uploaded to a file sharing service in JPEG, PNG, PDF format and a link should be provided in the registration form. Each acknowledgement file must be named by the short name of the achievement indicated in the nomination form;
  • essay "Why I deserve the Scholarship?" (design requirements: no more than 1 page of A4 format, in MS Word (.doc or .docx), Times New Roman font (12 pt.) with line spacing – 1.5, indent "first line" – 1 cm, all margins are 2 cm) must be attached to the registration form;
  • video message in English on "My role in shaping sustainable future of the energy industry" (requirements: duration not exceeding 5-7 minutes, video file). A link to the video message must be provided in the registration form.

In Moscow in April 2021, on the site of the National Oil and Gas Forum, Award ceremony scholarship winners was held. The new group of scholarship winners was congratulated by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin and the industry veteran, President of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia Genady Shmal. The ceremony was attended by Valery Yazev, Chairman of the Association “Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council”, and Vlada Streletskaya, Director of RNC of the WPC.

The honouring of students and post-graduate students, who were awarded scholarships "Golden Legacy of the World Petroleum Council" according to the results of the competitive selection, took place on 23rd October in St. Petersburg, at the main site of the 3rd Russian-UK Raw Materials Dialogue in the multifunctional complex "Gorny". In the presence of leading experts of the two countries in the field of subsoil use, the awards were presented by Valery Yazev, Chairman of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, and Vlada Streletskaya, Director of the RNC of the WPC.

The rewards to future oil and gas industry specialists who were awarded with the “Golden Legacy of the WPC” scholarship for excellent studies and active social work were presented by Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and Tor Fjaeran, President of the World Petroleum Council.
