RNC of the WPC Winter School in Nizhnevartovsk met expectations

The first educational programme of the winter school of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council "EnerGenious" was completed. Classes were held in Nizhnevartovsk and were included in the programme of the 3rd Youth Forum of Applied Research “Oil Capital”.


85 high school and university students of specialized universities of Saint-Petersburg and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra who achieved significant success were invited to study in the winter school. In particular, the group of high school students of St. Petersburg included winners of international subject Olympiads.


The Winter School of RNC of the WPC is an intensive introductory course, which allows high school and high school students to get not only theoretical knowledge about oil and gas industry, but also to get acquainted with the organization of production processes in practice. All five academic days, from February 17 to 21, were full of various informative meetings and events, communication with leading specialists and experts of the oil and gas industry.


Natalia Komarova, Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, Kirill Molodtsov, Advisor to Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, Valery Yazev, Chairman of the Russian National Committee of the WPC, welcomed the participants of the winter school at the opening ceremony. Vladimir Knyaginin, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, addressed the audience by videoconference.


Authoritative experts from Russia and other countries of the world have been invited for giving the lectures. Among them were Professor Anatoly Zolotukhin, Senior Vice President of the World Petroleum Council (Russia), Professor Goran Radosavljevic, General Secretary of the National Petroleum Committee of Serbia, Professor Ove Tobias Gudmestad from University of Stavanger (Norway). The course of lectures allowed covering a wide range of areas of the oil and gas industry, such as oil and gas exploration, subsoil use, production, transportation and processing of hydrocarbons, digitalization, offshore resources development.


During the visit to production facilities the participants of the winter school "EnerGenious" had an opportunity to enrich their theoretical knowledge with examples from practice. They visited the legendary Samotlor oil field and Nizhnevartovskaya power station, the enterprises of PJSC "Surgutneftegas" and PJSC "Slavneft-Megionneftegas". Another memorable event was an informal meeting with Genady Shmal, a famous veteran of the industry, one of the founders of oil and gas industry in Western Siberia.


"The oil and gas complex of the country has good prospects and many new important tasks. The industry is interested in an influx of smart, energetic, proactive and responsible new generation specialists. That is why a much attention is paid to professional orientation and support of young professionals in the activities of RNC of the WPC. One of the directions of this work is summer and winter schools. The programme implemented in Nizhnevartovsk, has shown that "EnerGenious" is quite an effective and very promising initiative", – said Vlada Streletskaya, Director of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council.

The second educational programme of the RNC of the WPC "EnerGenious" Winter School will start on March 2 in Stavanger (Norway).
