The third “EnerGenious” educational marathon has started

On November 24 was the start of a new – third – cycle of the “EnerGenious” educational project, that was launched in 2019 at the initiative of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council and supported by the government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, leading industry universities and oil and gas companies of Russia.

The “EnerGenious” project focuses on broadening and deepening young people's understanding of the oil and gas industry, engaging the most capable and motivated members of the new generation in the industry, and promoting career guidance and professional training. As in previous years, the programme includes two main events: case marathon and winter school.

The case-marathon is traditionally held in the format of a business game combined with online training. Over the course of three months, its participants, divided into teams, will perform tasks that are as close as possible to the challenges oil and gas companies face in practice. Each team is supervised by specialists with experience of working at industrial sites in the industry.

This year participants of the case marathon were offered a choice of five case studies developed by RNC WPC together with leading Russian companies and universities in the oil and gas industry:
- Offshore oil field development (Gazprom Neft);
- Digital age, or who are they, Homo digital? (Lukoil Perm);
- Creation of a hydrocarbon field development concept (Saint Petersburg Mining University);
- Optimising production processes of oil and gas transportation (Gubkin University).

Rimera Group prepared different programmes for schoolchildren and students. Improving ESP manufacturing technology (for students); Creating a business development strategy for an oilfield service provider (for schoolchildren).

The case marathon will be held remotely, allowing teams to be formed from different regions. This format has been recognised by participants in previous cycles as optimal.

200 schoolchildren and students from 16 regions of Russia and neighbouring countries are taking part in the EnerGenious case marathon. The teams include representatives from 25 universities.

The opening of the new cycle of the “EnerGenious” programme took place via videoconference. The young participants of the educational marathon were greeted by V. Streletskaya, Director of RNC WPC, A. Gomzyak, Deputy Director of Education and Youth Policy Department of KhMAO-Ugra, A. Shishkina, Director of Regional Youth Centre (KhMAO), S. Popov, Deputy Head of HR Development and Assessment Department of LUKOIL-Perm, M. Baranov, Operations Director of Rimera Group and A. Yegamov, HR Director of the company.

On the first day of the educational marathon, the curators of all five cases included in the programme of the third cycle of the “EnerGenious” project were introduced to the participants. They talked in detail about their case studies.

The final project presentations and awarding ceremony will be held in spring 2022 in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra at the venue of the V International Youth Applied Research Forum “Oil Capital”. There will also be a winter school for the marathon participants, organised by RNC WPC.
