RNC WPC Programme Committee: New Challenges and Benchmarks

Participants of the regular RNC WPC Programme Committee meeting which took place on 21st January summed up the results of last year's work and drew up plans for the future.

The Programme Committee, which met for the first time with a renewed composition last spring, has carried out considerable work. The Chairman of the Programme Committee, RAS Academician Alexander Nekipelov, highlighted several of the most significant areas of work.

First of all, it is an active and very effective promotion of Russia's interests at the initial stage of preparations for the 24th World Petroleum Congress (Calgary, Canada, 2023). Suggestions from the RNC WPC Programme Committee were taken into account by the organisers of the forthcoming Congress in determining the thematic emphasis and structure of the event. Seven candidates from Russia were approved by the World Petroleum Council as heads of the Forums of the 24th WPC – our country has the largest representation in the working bodies preparing the Congress technical programme events.

A significant event was the International Conference “Oil and Gas Industry Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals”, organised and hosted by the RNC WPC Programme Committee in October 2021 at the venue of St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

The RNC WPC Programme Committee includes authoritative representatives of Russian science, leading experts and top managers of the companies of the national oil and gas industry. Today, it is one of the most powerful industry centres of expertise in the country. The 2022 work plan approved at the Programme Committee meeting demonstrates the intention to make the most of this enormous potential.

The Programme Committee plans to continue its involvement in the preparation of the 24th World Petroleum Congress, develop cooperation with foreign colleagues, carry out research work and hold discussions on topical issues for the industry in open forums. Participants of the Programme Committee meeting discussed in detail the approaches to the organisation of the next major event: a discussion on “Mineral Resource Base of the Russian Oil and Gas Industry and Prospects for Monetisation of Reserves in the Energy Transition” will be held at the National Oil and Gas Forum (April 2022).
