The final of “EnerGenious” was held in Surgut

The final events of the third cycle of the “EnerGenious” educational project were held in Surgut. This initiative of the Association “RNC of the WPC” is designed to help attract talented and enterprising young people into the industry, to help them with their professional training and career development.

The project traditionally includes two events – a case-marathon and a winter school. As in previous years, the final stage of “EnerGenious” was held at the site of the Oil Capital International Youth Applied Research Forum.

For the first time the finalists of “EnerGenious” met in Surgut, who had previously – since November 2021 – interacted by completing the tasks of the case-marathon in a remote format. The finalists included 69 students from 21 Russian universities, two students from Uzbekistan and 35 schoolchildren representing cities and towns of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra.

The young participants of this cycle of the case-marathon had the opportunity to choose one of the five project tasks proposed by the organisers, which they performed as part of the teams. All tasks were as close as possible to the tasks solved by oil workers in practice. After all, they were prepared by the experts of the industry's leading companies and specialised universities: Gazprom Neft (Offshore oil and gas field development), LUKOIL-Perm (Digital age, or who are they, Homo digital?), Rimera Group (Improving ESP manufacturing technology / Creating a business development strategy for an oilfield service provider), Saint Petersburg Mining University (Creation of a hydrocarbon field development concept) and Gubkin University (Optimising production processes of oil and gas transportation).

Student teams presented their project solutions in Surgut. Schoolchildren who had reported on their work earlier – in a remote format – were offered a new case at the final stage, "Conceptual Engineering of an Oil Field".

The high school students presented their ideas and proposals in front of an expert jury. Natalia Komarova, Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra, who was present at the case presentation, praised the achievements of the finalists, their ingenuity, level of knowledge and ability to apply it.

"The EnerGenious project has become a trademark of the Oil Capital International Youth Applied Research Forum. During three years, almost 100 Ugra high school students have participated in the winter schools, and the project geography has expanded," noted the head of the region during the meeting with the “EnerGenious” project finalists.

"It is worth making a decision so that the “EnerGenious” winners can take part in the regional sessions at the Sirius educational centre without competition," N. Komarova added.

Winter school allowed high school and university students to broaden their horizons in various areas of oil and gas industry and to communicate with well-known industry specialists. Excursion trips were also of great interest.

"Experience shows that in addition to knowledge and skills, participation in the “EnerGenious” educational project helps make new friends and like-minded people and feel like an important part of our large multinational family. Our main pride is the dozens of “energeniouses” who have made their conscious choice – deciding to link their professional future with the oil and gas industry," said Vlada Streletskaya, Director of the Association “RNC of the WPC”.

"I would especially like to emphasise the role of the Government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra and personally Natalia Komarova, the Governor. Without this support, without the keen involvement in the preparation and holding of “EnerGenious”, it would have been impossible to hold such a large-scale event on a regular basis. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Russian oil and gas companies and leading educational centres of the country for their help and support", said V. Streletskaya.
