A meeting point - Astana
This time, the annual meeting of the governing bodies of the World Petroleum Council will be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Meetings of the Executive Committee and the WPC Council will be held here in early October. Members of the Programme Committee of the WPC will also meet here and discuss current professional issues.

Each of the annual meetings of the WPC Council is a significant event for the industry. After all, this is a unique discussion platform by the composition of participants. The Council consists of representatives of all National Committees of the member countries of the WPC. At the same time, representatives of 63 countries, which account for more than 95% of the world's oil and gas production, as well as the consumption of hydrocarbon raw materials, defend their positions and find points of interaction in the WPC. Each National Committee of the WPC expresses the position of representatives of the oil and gas industry, academia and government agencies of the country. At the same time, the main point under discussion at the meetings of the WPC Council are issues of global importance that help the industry to develop its full potential. The meeting of the WPC Council, which will be held in early October in Astana, is certainly a significant event for the world oil and gas industry.

The Programme Committee of the WPC, whose composition was renewed last year, is engaged in the development of the program of the 23rd World Congress, which will be held in 2020 in Houston (USA). Candidates are nominated by National Committees, of which the WPC Council selects members of the Programme Committee. Russia is represented by Vladimir Feigin, the President of the Institute for Energy and Finance.

A meeting of the WPC Young Professionals Committee will be held in Astana as well. Given that the 6th WPC Youth Forum, the Forum of Future Leaders, will be held in St. Petersburg in less than a year, Russia is waiting for the results of this business meeting with special interest.

Annual meetings of authoritative representatives of dozens of countries which play a key role in the oil and gas industry give the host country a unique opportunity to draw attention to national industry projects, achievements and opportunities of their country. The conference «Investment opportunities: new solutions for sustainable growth», organized by KAZENERGY Association together with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, will demonstrate to the delegations of the National Committees – members of the WPC new investment opportunities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The organizers expect that the conference will contribute to strengthening the international authority of the country and will give a powerful impetus to investment cooperation with many countries of the world.

It is important to note that in 2018, the most significant tax and regulatory reforms in the last decade occurred in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan. In January, a new Tax Code was adopted, and in June the Code on Subsoil and Subsoil Use of Kazakhstan was introduced. The authorities believe that the innovations will enhance the investment attractiveness of the country (especially in the exploratory drilling segment), simplify administrative processes and improve transparency in the regulation of legislation.

At the initiative of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Astana International Financial Center was established in the Republic. Its activities focus on attracting investment in the country's economy, creating an attractive environment for investment in financial services, developing the securities market and ensuring its integration with international capital markets. Interaction with this Financial Center allows investors to count on significant privileges, such as tax exemption until 2065, free movement of capital, ultramodern infrastructure and a special visa regime for foreigners.

The extensive program of events related to the meetings of the World Petroleum Council in Astana includes the Youth Conference «Generation Energy (Education, Employment, Trust and Diversity», a joint project of KAZENERGY Association and the WPC. One of the main goals of
the conference is the expert review of the age specificities of representatives of different generations engaged in the oil and gas sector. It is expected to discuss this topical issue comprehensively through the prism of education, employment, the economy of trust and diversity.

It is assumed that the results of the discussions will serve as a valuable material for drawing portraits of representatives of different generations, thus giving a deeper understanding of their motivation, goal setting and development.
