Pedro Miras Salamanca was elected as a President of the WPC

At the reporting meeting of the World Petroleum Council that was held in Houston the Executive Committee was renewed and a President elected.


Pedro Miras Salamanca, previously Chairman of the Congress Programme Committee of the WPC, is the new president of the World Petroleum Council.


Pedro Miras Salamanca represents Spain in the World Petroleum Council. He is Director of Institutional Affairs and Organizations at REPSOL.


As a Chairman of the Congress Programme Committee of the World Petroleum Council, Pedro Miras Salamanca played an active role in shaping the programme of the 23rd World Petroleum Congress (Houston, 2021) and coordinated the initial preparations for the 24th World Petroleum Congress (Calgary, 2023).


In summer 2019, Pedro Miras Salamanca participated in the 6th WPC Youth Forum – Future Leaders Forum, organised by the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council in Saint Petersburg.


Pedro Miras Salamanca took over the leadership of the World Petroleum Council from Tor Fjaeran, who has been the WPC President since 2017.


The World Petroleum Council meets once a year. All the national committees of the WPC member countries are represented in it.


The President is elected for three years and, together with the Executive Committee, he organises the development and implementation of the organisation's strategy.


Dr Nabeel Al Afaleg, Director General for International Gas Cooperation at Saudi Aramco, was elected as a Chairman of the WPC Congress Programme Committee.
