World Petroleum Council awarded Sakhalin Energy

The World Petroleum Council (WPC) recognised Sakhalin Energy with one of the prestigious WPC Excellence Awards, their objective being to distinguish the most outstanding projects in the oil and gas industry.

The company's practice of engaging with Sakhalin indigenous minorities was recognised as the best in the Social Responsibility category.

The winners of one of the most prestigious awards promoting high excellence standards were announced on the 23rd World Petroleum (Houston, USA).

Sakhalin Energy presented its experience in engaging with Sakhalin's indigenous ethnic groups at the Social Responsibility Stand. The experts selected six projects from around the world that showcase stories of successful cooperation between business and society.

"The highest acclaim from international experts is a very significant, honourable award for us, proving that we have chosen the right strategy for tackling global issues of public importance. By trying out standards that are new not only for Russian, but also for international business, we remain pioneers interested both in sustainable development and in the preservation of the unique culture and traditions of Sakhalin's indigenous ethnic groups. All this is perfectly in line with the international agenda - the UN Sustainable Development Goals − and greatly contributes to solving global problems," says Natalia Gonchar, Head of the company's Corporate Affairs Department.
