RNC WPC held a conference on energy efficiency

Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council held a conference "Energy Efficient Solutions for Reducing the Carbon Footprint". The event was part of the business programme of the international exhibition “NEFTEGAZ-2022”.

The panellists noted that companies in the oil and gas industry have been looking for energy-efficient solutions for a long time. However, new opportunities are opening up and new challenges and requirements are arising. It is not just the economic benefits that have to be taken into account now. Today's environmental agenda is strictly demanding the rational use of fuel and energy to reduce the carbon footprint. The role and place of hydrocarbons in the global energy mix will be largely determined by the competitiveness of the oil and gas industry and its ability to apply energy-efficient solutions.

The conference provided a platform for assessing the current situation, sharing experience, presenting innovative solutions and clarifying the way forward. It is very important that practitioners took an active part in the discussion.

Anton Ablaev from “Skolkovo Foundation” presented new innovative solutions for the oil and gas industry developed in Russia. Valery Plotnikov, expert of the international engineering and construction company “STG Engineering”, made a presentation on “ESG Transformation and Energy Efficient Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry”. Elena Fedorova, member of the RNC WPC Programme Committee, Head of the Department of Gubkin University, spoke about the prospects of reducing the carbon footprint in the LNG industry.

Valery Bessel, Executive Vice President of “NewTech Services”, suggested discussing opportunities for using green energy to improve the efficiency of oil and gas projects. Continuing the topic, Ivan Guryanov from electrical engineering company “CHINT” made specific proposals on the use of solar panels in oil and gas fields.

Tikhon Vardashkin, managing partner of “INTELLEKT-STROY”, spoke about technologies to reduce CO2 emissions from mazut boiler plants. The proposed solutions are very relevant for Russia, where about five thousand boiler plants run on mazut. Every year, they burn more than 18 million tonnes of fuel.

Eduard Avanyan, Executive Director of “Modern Georadiolocation Technologies”, spoke about the advantages and rich opportunities of radar sounding. Equally informative was the talk by Dmitry Vorobiev from “Holcim” about 'green' grouting cement. This unique Russian product allows for a 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

Another Russian development, iSHELL thermal insulation, provides impressive efficiency. Its advantages were explained by Pavel Volkov, technical director of the production-engineering company “Flagman”.

"There were a lot of representatives from oil and gas production companies in the conference room. They asked questions to the speakers and expressed their own opinions. It was clear that finding new approaches to energy efficiency is an important task for them. We are grateful to the management of “Expocentre” and the organisers of the “NEFTEGAZ” exhibition for the opportunity to hold such a topical discussion", said Vlada Streletskaya, Director of the Association “RNC of the WPC”.
